REHWA was established to revive the source of livelihood for local weavers languishing after industrialisation and is committed towards sustaining Maheshwari handlooms and the skilled craftsmen involved in their creation. It aims to preserve the aesthetics of the age-old Maheshwari craft- fine pieces, geometric dobby borders with traditional and contemporary layouts to retain market relevance.

It has stood as a marker of quality in craft and social impact. REHWA intends to continue to retain the same ideals- of being sensitive and more receptive of the handmade, and the lives of the skilled communities involved in their making.

REHWA has provided decent wages, housing, healthcare benefits and subsidised education through the Ahilya Bal Jyoti School to weavers’ children and several others from less privileged backgrounds. REHWA looks after 68 weavers and families , 25 staff members, 20 teachers and 250 children through their weaving center and school.

If you wish to support the REHWA initiative , please visit @okhai_org , our e-commerce partner, and buy the beautiful creations in the form of sarees, dupattas, mats, rugs, masks, potlis etc made by the REHWA community.
